Investment Securities

What are investment securities?

Investment securities are certificates that indicate some level of ownership or interest in a business or asset. You can purchase debt obligation investment securities and equity investment securities. When you buy debt obligation investment securities, you're essentially leading an institution's money with the promise that you'll recoup the investment with the addition of interest payments. Equity investment securities are generally purchased in a form of a share. When you buy a share, it represents that you have bought partial ownership in a publicly-traded company.
